Royal College of Podiatry

Information and guidance for members following the granting of Royal College status by Her Majesty The Queen

What's changed?

The College of Podiatry has been renamed as the Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) after being granted permission to use the title by Her Majesty The Queen.

Permission to use the Royal title is granted by The Queen, who acts on advice provided to her by her Ministers. Use of the Royal title or any personal title is granted sparingly. It was noted that the College’s long history, proud heritage and its embodiment of high standards contributed towards the decision.

Chief Executive of the Royal College of Podiatry, Steve Jamieson, said:

“I am proud that Her Majesty The Queen has granted the College Royal status in its 75th year. It is the hard work of our members and their consistent dedication to the profession that is the driving force behind this achievement. I look forward to the future as part of a Royal College, whilst continuing to focus on raising the profile of podiatry and championing its unique impact on patient care”.

Chair of the Royal College of Podiatry, Matthew Fitzpatrick, said:

“I am thrilled by today’s news and delighted for our members who are now represented by a Royal College. The professional standards associated with holding a Royal title will enable the RCPod to gain a greater voice representing its members and their patients in all areas of the Health and Social Care agenda”.

In response to member feedback, we have put together a list of frequently asked questions which we hope will answer your questions and concerns.

The most common questions we have received concern post-nominals and College branding, so we have put together the advice below:

Post-nominals

Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. College branding

The achievement of Royal College status puts the RCPod on a par with 23 other highly respected medical royal colleges and faculties, and confirms us as the pre-eminent membership body for podiatrists in the UK.

Royal status was conferred in acknowledgement of the College’s long history, proud heritage and its embodiment of high standards.

We hope our Royal College status will raise the profile of the profession with the public and with other healthcare professions, give us a louder voice with policy-makers and government, and help attract new recruits to the profession to take forward and develop the practise of podiatry.

With Royal status comes a number of obligations for the profession to meet in order to retain its royal title. These include reporting on ....:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur.

Members' response

We are thrilled by the positive response to our new status. Here is what some of you said:

Wow what amazing news! Now the Royal College of Podiatry as approved by Her Majesty the Queen

Some great news from our professional body today

What great news for a Wednesday morning!
Curtsying will be required when you attend for your Podiatry appointment

Here at Stirling Podiatry we are all members of the same professional body, The College of Podiatry. Looks like we got an upgrade!
We are very excited that Her Majesty The Queen has recognised the contribution that podiatrists make to the world and has bestowed this upon the profession.
Don’t worry though, no need to curtesy to us when you attend for your appointment. Not unless you really want to!

Great achievement, and will certainly put us on an equal footing with many of the main medical institutions and Colleges
