Last night in a televised announcement, the Prime Minister and the UK Government presented its three-month roadmap out of lockdown. Following that address, the College informed its members this morning that it would wait until the Government published its guidance in full, before issuing advice about what it means for them.

Following the publication of that guidance this afternoon, and having studied it in detail, the College is now in the position to advise all of its independent practitioner members. Clinical advice has been developed following collaboration with representatives from the relevant College of Podiatry Special Advisory Groups.

Independent podiatry practices were previously on the list of businesses exempt from closing. This was done to ensure that those who were at risk of ulceration or infection were able to receive treatment.

The College can advise that:
  • Members can return to work in their practices but MUST follow the Treatment Grid to determine the way in which patients are treated using the three risk-criteria; Red, Amber and Green
  •
  • The Treatment Grid must be used in conjunction with the updated decision tree and the College's clinical and PPE guidance
  • Members must ensure that they follow social distancing and/or wear PPE at all times
The College has also published two additional documents:
Members are urged to read and use both documents to ensure that they are properly prepared to reopen.

This guidance has been produced based on all of the available information at the time of publication. The COVID-19 pandemic is a continually evolving situation. Please continue to consult the news section of the website for the latest information.
